This week I had the privilege to talk with Juvie Price!!
Behind every great bakery or cupcakery, lies dedicated people who are willing to get up in the middle of the night, while the majority of the world are still home asleep in their beds! Flavor Cupcakery depends on these people, so that cupcakes, cakes, and more, can be baked fresh every day.
Juvie, is one of the spectacular people who is willing to do this! Not only does she wake up super early, but she manages to do this with a smile on her face every day. What does she like about the middle of the night shift? She likes to come in at this time, focused, working towards her goals for the day. Before she leaves the previous day, she already knows what her schedule will be like for the next day. Juvie bakes, scoops, fills, frosts and garnishes the fresh cupcakes each day. She likes to be able to come in and work at her own pace as she can manage her workload for each day. She stresses that some of the qualities needed for a position in baking are: needing to be alert, you need to know how much you can handle, and most importantly, you have to love it. She loves to create with her hands.
Juvie loves to work and is very dedicated to her job. She finds it hard to say no, because she always wants to make sure the end product is excellent. She will stay as long as she needs to, to make sure this happens. She loves working with the Flavor Cupcakery team, where there is great team spirit, as many of the girls have been working together for a long time and they can all help each other out with different tasks, which is essential!
Juvie’s love of baking stems from some wonderful times spent as a child baking with her grandmother and mother. She has a very close family, and she remembers how her grandmother, although a working State Delegate, still loved to feed and cook for her family.
EDUCATION
Juvie, is an accomplished young lady at the young age of 26. She first went to school at Baltimore International College, where she obtained a degree in professional cooking and baking. As part of this course she was able to travel to Ireland on an exchange program, where they stayed at Park Hotel in Virginia, County Cavan, Ireland. She loved the slower pace of life there.
As far as differences in baking, well, the metric system was a challenge to figure out! Simple things like altitude are different, which affects the result of what one is baking! They definitely use less sugar, and utilize more pastry dough. She stayed in a beautiful hotel in Ireland where she trained with pastry chefs. After this course, she went on to do another course where she obtained a degree in Hospitality Management, at the University of MD, Eastern Shore.
In her free time Juvie likes to relax, listen to music, go to restaurants and spend time with her boyfriend. She also talks of her love to travel and how in the future she would love to do more travelling. She also has a large extended family with whom she loves to spend time with. I conclude, that such a hardworking and bright young lady deserves as much relaxation time as she can get!
